A properly built walk-in shower is the centerpiece of any bathroom renovation.
The walk-in shower is consistently the most requested feature in Toronto bathroom renovations — and the one where the difference between a good contractor and a poor one is most visible. We build custom walk-in and curbless showers with large-format porcelain tile, frameless glass, and Wedi Pro certified waterproofing on every wet surface. Every shower we build is backed by our written 10-year waterproofing warranty. Whether you are replacing an existing shower, converting a tub alcove, or building a new shower in a renovation, we build it to last.
Scope of work
What's Included in a Walk-in Shower Installation
Every shower build follows the same sequence. There are no shortcuts in waterproofing — and that is where most failed showers begin.
Book a Free ConsultationWhether we are replacing an existing shower, converting a tub, or building new, everything comes down to bare substrate first. No tiling over existing surfaces. The substrate is assessed, repaired where needed, and prepared for certified waterproofing.
Certified Wedi Pro waterproofing on all four walls and the floor. The shower pan is built with a proper slope to the drain — typically a quarter inch per foot minimum. This is what our 10-year written warranty covers and what separates a shower that lasts from one that leaks.
Large-format porcelain or ceramic tile on walls and floor. Layout planning for tile orientation and pattern. Built-in recessed niche waterproofed and tiled. Feature wall or accent tile if specified. Grout selected and sealed for long-term durability.
Frameless or semi-frameless glass enclosure measured and installed to fit the finished tile. Shower head, rain head, hand shower, thermostatic or pressure-balance valve, and all hardware installed to spec. Drain cover selected to match the tile or hardware finish.
Why Pilkowski
The Difference Is in the Details
The most common shower failures we see in Toronto homes share one cause: insufficient waterproofing. Tile set over drywall, caulk over old grout, no membrane behind the walls. It looks fine for a few years. Then the water finds its way through and the damage starts behind the tile where you cannot see it.
- Vague estimate. Surprise costs mid-project.
- No certified waterproofing. Caulk over old tile.
- Subcontracted labour you have never met
- No written warranty on the work
- Owner off-site once the project starts
- Timeline changes without notice
- Line-by-line written quote. No surprises.
- Wedi Pro certified waterproofing on every wet surface
- Owner-managed from start to finish
- Written 10-year waterproofing warranty
- Owner on site throughout the project

Design decisions
What Makes a Great Walk-in Shower
The decisions made during design and waterproofing determine how the shower performs and how it looks for decades. Here is what we build into every custom shower.
No threshold to step over. The floor slopes to the drain with no barrier at the entry. Looks cleaner, feels more open, and is accessible for all ages. Requires a properly built sloped pan — which we do as standard.
Thick tempered glass panels with minimal hardware. The tile does the work visually — the glass stays out of the way. More durable than framed alternatives and significantly better looking over time.
24x48" or larger on the walls, 12x24" or larger on the floor. Fewer grout lines mean fewer places for water to penetrate and a cleaner overall look. We layout every tile pattern before installation starts.
A waterproofed recessed shelf built into the shower wall during the waterproofing stage. Holds shampoo and soap without any wall-mounted hardware. Tiled to match the shower walls.
Ceiling or wall-mounted rain head paired with a hand shower and thermostatic valve. Precise temperature control and a significantly better daily shower experience than a standard pressure-balance setup.
One wall in a contrasting tile, a herringbone accent strip, or a full slab-look porcelain feature wall. A modest cost addition that gives the shower a designed rather than standard look.

Common questions
Frequently Asked Questions
A walk-in shower installation in Toronto costs $8,000–$13,000 for a standard build, $13,000–$20,000 for a custom curbless shower with large-format tile and frameless glass, and $18,000–$30,000+ for a larger or more complex build. These are standalone shower costs — a full bathroom renovation including the shower runs higher. See our full cost guide.
A curbless shower has no raised threshold or curb at the entry point. The shower floor slopes toward the drain so water flows away without a barrier to step over. It looks cleaner, feels more open, and is more accessible for all ages. It requires a properly waterproofed and sloped pan — which we build as standard on every shower we install.
A standalone walk-in shower build takes 1–2 weeks. As part of a full bathroom renovation the shower is completed within the overall project timeline, which is typically 2–5 weeks depending on scope. We give you a detailed schedule before we start so you always know when the bathroom will be back in use.
The minimum comfortable walk-in shower size is 36x36 inches, though 36x48 inches is significantly more comfortable for most people. A curbless shower with a rain head works best at 48x36 inches or larger. We assess your space and give you honest size recommendations during your free consultation — including what is and is not feasible in your bathroom.
